If I am using two Touch Controllers, how can I switch to using MX Ink?

Assuming MX Ink is already paired to your Meta Quest, then you just pick up MX Ink and press a button on it, and MX Ink will become active.

Why is there a misalignment between the virtual stylus representation and the actual physical stylus in passthrough mode?

Limitations of passthrough video quality and tracking means these won’t be perfectly aligned. Alignment is best in the central field of view area.

How do I wake my MX Ink from deep sleep mode?

MX Ink does not have an OFF switch. After 30+ minutes of inactivity, to conserve power, it will enter a deep sleep mode. To exit this mode, and start using the stylus again, power on the stylus by pressing the Meta button for 2.5 seconds.

Is it possible for my app to change the system settings for MX Ink via an API?

No. Only the user can change those parameters in the Stylus Settings page.

Can I use MX Ink in older apps that do not include MX Ink support?

Maybe. MX Ink also reports as a legacy Touch controller. As a result of the inputs will work in older apps. Of course, the MX Ink model will not be shown, and some of the app interactions may not work, e.g., MX Ink does not have a thumbstick.

MX Ink LED is blinking on/off in an SOS pattern. How do I fix it?

If the MX Ink LED is repeatedly flashing three fast blinks, three slow blinks, then three fast blinks (SOS in morse code), this is an error and the stylus needs to be reset.

  1. Connect MX Ink using a USB-C cable to a power source. This will reset the stylus. However, if the SOS LED blinking pattern still persists, then continue from step 2 to re-pair your stylus to your Meta Quest
  2. Ensure your Meta Quest headset is Powered ON and Charged with battery level >30%
  3. Ensure your phone and Meta Quest are both connected to the same Wifi network
  4. Open the Meta Horizon app on your phone
  5. Under headset settings, tap Controllers, then tap Pair New Controller, then tap Pair Stylus
  6. The stylus is now paired to the Quest Headset
  7. Following pairing, the firmware on the MX Ink will be updated. During this update process the LED will be constantly on (white color). This update can take up to 2 minutes
  8. Following the firmware update the LED will stop blinking and the stylus will work properly again

Can I use MX Ink on another non-Meta HMD?

No.
